weekend blues

At what point is the weekend over?  and why do I start wishing it was Friday afternoon before the weekend is even out?

I am feeling rather gloomy this afternoon.  The sun is shining and I am stuck indoors having had the mad idea that it would be clever to do some batch cooking today.    I thought it quite amusing this morning that it was only 7am and I was chopping carrots!!  Its not so funny now when I actually quite fancy going for a nice walk or sitting in a pub garden with a nice chilled glass of something.

I felt rather under the weather yesterday so did not very much but I was intrigued and amused to note a post on facebook  from a friend who commented that she had got home from her friday night out at 6.30am!  Yesterday I got up at 5am so I found it funny that I had been to sleep and got up before she had even gone to bed.  It must have been a good night!

I'm also feeling sad today because there are never enough weekend hours to fit everything in.   I have managed some of my housework this weekend and I have also cleaned my oven door (a novelty!) but my cross stitch, well I managed about 20 stitches at about 10pm last night before I decided bed was the only cure for my grumpiness!

There is next weekend though and as I have nothing planned, I suspect I shall wile away the hours doing not very much and finding myself scratching my head and wondering where its gone this time next week!

My cross stitch holiday

As I switched off my work computer yesterday,  I could hardly contain my excitement that the weekend was finally here!     The first week back at work after my holiday was complete!    No getting up tomorrow (well today actually) at the crack of dawn, no plans made, just relax and make the most of not being in the office and being able to craft as much as other inconveniences (cooking/housework) will allow.

I am a bit shocked that my last post was in July last year!   I have been busy crafting since my last post although all I seem to have been doing is adding to my UFO projects! oh and buying more cross stitch stash!

Whilst I enjoyed my week away from the office, I managed to (start) and finish a couple of small  projects (pics below).

I also took the time while I was off to get myself a bit more organised so chart designs I would like to stitch have the material and threads with them now and I have a pile of kits that are on my "to do" list.    I have been doing lots of little projects and I feel its time to start something that I can really get my teeth into.   Once I have decided what this is going to be, I will share my progress on here!

You might also  get to see a picture or two of my knitting because I have taken that up again although I am really not very good at it!

So here are a few projects I have stitched recently: -

This was a delight to stitch and was completed in just two days.    I am thinking of stitching the same design again but stitching a black cat instead of a ginger cat.  I added the border because I thought the cat and house by itself looked bare.

Another design (on the left) that stitched up really quickly.  I think the design on the right is finished and will post a pic in a subsequent post.  Unfortunately I stitched one design too close to the other (trying to save material) so I will be a bit limited when I mount the design into a card.

Finally (for now!) this design remains unfinished because I have quite simply fallen out of love with it.  This was a free kit from a magazine called Cross Stitch Card Shop and is as I guess most of you will recognize a Margaret Sherry Design.  The threads were not pre-sorted and I had trouble identifying the different shades and after making a mistake with the teacup handle managed to run out of one of the shades of pink and also had trouble identifying very light grey.  There might be the odd stitch that needs completing but other than than, it just needs the backstitch which I am not looking forward to and will no doubt save for a rainy day!

Just how much cross stitch stash would £161 million buy me ?

I couldn't resist buying a ticket for the euromillions £161 million lotto draw last Tuesday.   Sadly it wasn't me that crossed off all 5 numbers and 2 lucky stars but well done to the scottish couple, I hope you enjoy it.  I don't think I would have gone public had it been me but hey I'll worry about that when I win....

I always wait a few days before checking my ticket whilst I daydream about how I will spend the money and whilst I wait for Camelot to report that the monies have gone unclaimed, ticket bought from my local town, these are the numbers, is it you?  I also play on-line and I would so love to know what the e-mail would say when its millions you have won ?.  Usually its -We have some news about the ticket that you bought for the ??? draw.  If the scottish couple had bought their ticket on-line - would the e-mail have said, We have exciting news about your ticket!  We suggest you pour yourself a stiff drink and ensure you are sitting down before you log in to see how much you have won....

Once all the boring post lottery win stuff is done (paying off the mortgage/holiday/sharing the good fortune with family and friends), I think I would want to spend a few quid on my cross stitch hobby.   I'm sure sewandso would be agreeable to me paying a little visit to their warehouse.  Or should I just e-mail them and say, hey guys, send us £500,000 worth of stuff would you ?   One can daydream....

Back to reality.  Another weekend has passed me by and I feel sad that I haven't done any cross stitch.  I'm hopeful though that once the evening meal is sorted that I'll be able to sit in front of the box with my little mouse kit and at least get half an hour of stitching in.

In the meantime, I'll go back to daydreaming, just how much stash would £161 million get me ?  would sew and so have enough stash to fulfill such a large order ......

I would rather be cross stitching, the (new) title of my blog, says it all!    I have been cross stitching for  many years and can probably quite safely say that of all my hobbies and interests, cross stitch is my favourite!   I am terrible for starting a project and not finishing it though and I can't resist buying more supplies despite the fact that I have quite enough to keep me going including my many unfinished items for many, many years.

I've been posting the occasional picture of my work on my facebook page but I decided that it would be nice to combine my blog with my love of cross stitch and share with you all my efforts.

I do have a couple of projects that I started recently, meant as gifts, but my heart isn't in stitching them at the moment and that's important.   For me, each stitch, its stitched with love.

I think I have fallen out of favour with these two projects because I have been busy recently stitching a special card, also a gift and having finished it! I feel like I want to stitch something for myself.

I haven't been able to decide what I want to stitch this week - I started a new project but  had to give it up the same day I started it because I miscounted the material - I was stitching on magic count evenweave and I hadn't appreciated that it was 25 count not the 28 count I was expecting so I didn't have enough.  Then I started a winnie the pooh design but trying to stitch this on the bus, on evenweave, with a  huge hoop isn't practical.

So before the weekend is out, I am going to have a browse through all my projects and decide on what I want to stitch next and I am going to stick with it!

I intend to post updates of the project on here so that should keep me motivated!
